Sarah John

Sarah John is a versatile and passionate conductor based in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2017, Sarah founded the Summerhill Orchestra, a dynamic community ensemble nestled in downtown Toronto. As a unique hybrid of professionals and community musicians, the Summerhill Orchestra under Sarah’s leadership has become a vibrant cultural cornerstone, nurturing a deep appreciation for orchestral music within the community. Sarah’s future plans for the Summerhill Orchestra include expanding its repertoire to include choral, opera, and new music concerts.
From 2006 to 2013, Sarah spearheaded Vespera, an all-female vocal ensemble celebrated for its captivating performances of contemporary concert music. Under her direction, Vespera garnered acclaim for its innovative interpretations and artistic excellence.
Sarah’s conducting prowess encompasses a diverse array of ensembles, from community choirs to professional symphony orchestras. She has collaborated with esteemed organizations such as the Windsor Symphony, the Windsor Symphony Chorus, Heliconian Choir and Orchestra, and the Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra.
A lifelong learner, Sarah has honed her craft and has studied under renowned conducting teachers Kenneth Kiesler, Arthur Arnold, Gustav Meier, George Corwin, Susan Haig, Dale Warland, William Weinert, Joseph Flummerfelt, and Elmer Iseler, further refining her unique conducting style.
